PTSD
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after a person is exposed to a traumatic event like war, assault, or disaster. According to the National Institutes of Health, 3.5% of adults in the United States are suffering from PTSD at any given time. The symptoms of PTSD include re-experiencing the traumatic event such as having intense recollections or nightmares about what happened, avoiding certain people, places, or situations that are reminders of the traumatic event, being easily startled or feeling on edge, and an impact on mood such as loss of interest in enjoyable activities. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment for PTSD and Dr. Culver is trained in two specific CBT-based interventions for PTSD: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE). Research supports both treatments as effective interventions for PTSD. Dr. Culver has worked with many patients suffering from PTSD. Treating the symptoms of PTSD can truly change a person’s life. If you are struggling with PTSD, Dr. Culver would be happy to work with you towards reducing your symptoms.
